Description: The Public Works North Facility currently under construction will serve as a principal facility for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s Public Works operations.
The project consists of the construction and commissioning of a 2,400 m2 administration building and maintenance facility (Building A), a 3,600 m2 vehicle storage facility (Building B), and a complex civil works package. The project also required the relocation and reinstallation of an existing 2,500 m2 sand storage Quonset facility which had a tight turnover timeline that we achieved.
Building A’s administration building will house modern offices, meeting rooms, hoteling, as well as a fitness facility. The building’s vehicle maintenance shop will be equipped with in-house oil, grease, and gas pumps, pressure washing stations, and a 2.5 ton bridge crane.
Building B consists of 8 vehicle storage bays, providing ample space to accommodate the Public Works feet. In addition to vehicle storage, there are two large second floor mezzanines intended for material storage.
The slab structure for both the vehicle maintenance facility and the vehicle storage facility will be sloped to a trench drain system complete with sump pits. The slab structures will be fully heated.
As part of the project scope, we are also tasked with the construction of a new lift station, valve chamber, and pressure reducing valve chamber.
The project site is an operating facility which is currently shared between ourselves and the public works department. Close coordination and collaboration has been essential to ensure that our construction activities do not impede their operational activities.
