Description: The new 8,927 m² Peace Regional Recreation Centre (now known as the Baytex Energy Centre) is the premier recreation facility in the Peace River Region. The facility offers a wide range of sports and fitness options. Program areas include NHL-sized ice rink with a seating capacity of 900 with additional standing room offering a fantastic view from every spot. The centre also provides four full-size court gymnasiums, a multi-use field house, three-lane walking track, fitness room, three multipurpose community rooms complete with kitchen access, a concession complete with commercial kitchen equipment, and an indoor children’s play space.
The arena and fieldhouse were enclosed in a pre-engineered structure while adjacent common areas were constructed by conventional methods. Both the arena and fieldhouse are flanked by bleachers that were constructed using cast-in-place methods. Additionally, a structural slab supported by concrete columns was constructed for the second floor used to divide the fieldhouse and arena.
The project included the abatement and demolition of the existing Baytex Energy Centre.
